The National Assembly committees on Land Transport on Tuesday inspected facilities at the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) headquarters in Lagos, asking the management of the corporation to make a case for the increase in its capital budget.
This is against the backdrop of the financial constraint which is said to have stalled railway projects across the country.
According to Ashafa, out of the N4.5bn allocated for the railway in the 2016 appropriation, only N399 million is allocated for capital projects in the budget.
He however said with the appropriation bill currently being considered, “some concessions can be given by way of moving some funds from one area to the other for them to be able to meet their obligations.”
