Professor Yemi Osinbajo has from today, Friday, February 5, 2016 become the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari indicated that he would be proceeding on a six-day vacation.
According to a statement in a series of tweets by Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity; while the President is away ( on his first official vacation since he took over the helm of affairs seven months ago) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the President.
Shehu said Buhari had already transmitted a letter to that effect to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
According to Shehu “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, Pres. Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives”. He is expected back on duty on February 10.
