Tornado is a destructive  vortex of violently rotating winds having the appearance of a funnel-shaped cloud and advancing beneath a large storm system.

According to The Weather Channel on Friday, at least 20 tornadoes hit across the South, mostly in Mississippi. New York Magazine reports that at least 40 people were injured in Mississippi, and a

7-year-old boy was killed the car he was riding in was picked up by the wind. Other casualties occurred in Tennessee and Arkansas.

The scale of the storms are unusual, as well. One tornado alone stretched across the Earth for a total of 150 miles.

“If it is continuous it would be the longest track [December] tornado on record here in the Mid-South,” the National Weather Service’s Memphis office said.
